In addition to the approximately 60 boys who live at our hogar in the province of Santa Barbara, Honduras, Amigos de Jesús also financially supports over 350 children in the mountain region of Honduras, as well as in Guyana on the northern coast of South America, and in Tanzania in central East Africa. We call this our Padrino Program.

In Spanish, the word Padrino means Godparent. At times in the United States one’s duties as a Godparent are limited to presence at the baptism, some support along the way, remembering your Godchild at important life events, and offering to be there if help is ever needed. In Latin America, being a Padrino essentially means being a second parent to a child – a pivotal part of their development and community – and in the case of our children, being their main source of spiritual, emotional, and financial support. The term Padrino is one accompanied by immense affection, warmth, love, respect, and a great deal of gratitude.

Through the role of Padrino, you are providing your child with the necessary means to keep him/her nutritionally well-fed, in school, getting any needed psychological attention, and being cared for by a community of volunteers whose priority is the well-being of the children. You are allowing your child to grow up in a safe environment so that she/he will come to know how valuable she is, and will be the recipient of the dignity he deserves.

In becoming a Padrino, for $300 per year, you will receive correspondence through letters from your sponsored child, as well as a picture of him/her. We are currently in the process of finding avenues to provide translations of those letters to you, so you have a clear picture of your child’s growth, development, and personality.
