We had a wonderful Epiphany celebration on January 6 at Amigos de Jesús hogar.
Epiphany Sunday in Honduras is known as Dia de Los Reyes Magos - “The Day of the Three Kings..”
The holiday marks the biblical adoration of baby Jesus by the three Kings, also referred to as three Wise Men or Magi. According to the Gospel of Matthew, the men found the divine child by following a star across the desert for twelve days to Bethlehem.
Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar — representing Europe, Arabia, and Africa respectively — traveled by horse, camel, and elephant in order to present baby Jesus with three symbolic gifts.
At our Hogar on Epiphany, the children heard reflections on the story of the Magi with Madrina Carla and Padre Pato before processing to the Creche in front of the Comedor.
Maritza (Office Leader) and Humberto (Head of Maintenance) were Mary and Joseph with their new baby, Alexa. One of our little boys was the angel.
The children were called up by name (starting with the new kids at Amigos) to be presented with their gifts from the Three Kings.
The children tore open their presents which included driving Tonka trucks, scooters, stuffed animals, hair extensions, unicorn headbands, baby dolls, and more.
We at Amigos de Jesús wish to express our eternal gratitude to all of the generous donors who sent gifts for the children! They are praying for you as always.
